the good life

it was great to spend a good few days in the twigs at the end of our holiday. we had a beautiful weekend pottering about. yesterday we ventured into town to explore the new good life markets that are being held in huonville over the 'warmer' months.

even though the weather was a bit gloomy there was still a nice turnout. it was a great chance to pick up some trusty local produce as well as find out about some new spots to visit in the valley.

franklin fair

bb & i visited the franklin fair last saturday. it was wet and misty but we still had a lovely time. bb was broadcasting sport vs everything for huon fm from the franklin school whilst i explored about. my favourite find of the day was the huge sequoia tree. it was planted in 1901 and now towers above the school buildings. bb spoke to a woman whose grandfather used to throw stones over the tree as a child. i love hearing little things like that about the valley.

exploring - southport

bb & i have been to southport in the deep south of the state a couple of times before but until recently we only visited when it had been wintery, wet and a little bit miserable.

last week we had some beautiful spring weather so we decided to explore the area again. i knew it would be amazingly beautiful on a sunny day and we weren't disappointed. what a fabulous spot.

warmer

i read lots of blogs by people living in the northern hemisphere. all winter long i have read about their beautiful summers. bbqs, the beach, long lovely days. recently, though there has been mention of cooler nights and a feeling that autumn is on its way.

yesterday was glorious here at home, the sun was shining, the birds were singing and i didn't wear a jacket all day. all this can only mean one thing - spring is definitely on its way to the twigs.  yippee!

winter white

yesterday was very nearly our first ever snow day, but it wasn't meant to be.  the highway to hobart was closed due to snow and ice but opened again late in the morning. this was what we saw on our belated journey into town.

winter colours

i love the crisp blue skies we have been having lately but closer to the ground it is a bit bleak this time of year. i am so looking forward to new leaves on the trees and some warm sunshine, but in the meantime i will keep looking for colour wherever i can find it.

franklin square

franklin square is just across the road from my office. over the past 6 months i have watched the park change through the seasons. we are so lucky to have such beautiful open spaces in the middle of hobart. although after going through these photos i am really starting to pine for some warmer weather. it would be so lovely to be able to sit in the park on a sunny day again - it's looking awfully gloomy at the moment.
